A question I’m sure many of you are asking yourselves while planning your wedding (or other event) is “Do I really need this (fill in the blank)?” or “Is this really in our budget?” I’m fully aware of these two questions because I’ve asked them soooo many times while planning my own wedding. My fiancé and I have some differing opinions on some of these questions, as I sure you and yours do, as well. Personally, I feel like that is totally normal. Neither of us are necessarily bougie by any means, but we like nice things and want our guests to have a night all of us will remember. Or maybe bits and pieces depending on how much we all party.
Either way, we want everyone, including ourselves, to be entertained and partying all night long. So, how do we make this happen? If you want my opinion, and you obviously do or you wouldn’t have read this far, you need good music, flowing drinks, and fun vendors. No one is going to reminisce on your wedding and say “Oh do you remember the monogram they had on the bar napkins? That really made that wedding one to remember.” Now don’t get me wrong, I love a good monogram and we have one for our wedding made by yours truly, but I have zero expectations of anyone other than myself remembering that we had a monogram on something. When I say vendors, I’m talking about DJs, photographers, and PHOTO BOOTHS! And then there’s your food and bartenders but that’s outside of what I want to talk about today.
So now to my reasoning why you need a photo booth at your wedding. Depending on your photographer and your budget, you may only have one photographer. If that’s the case, they are probably going to be focusing a lot on the happy couple. Because, well, that’s what they’re being paid to do. So reason #1: A photo booth is probably cheaper than a second shooter at a wedding. This allows you to have more pictures of your guests.
Next, let’s discuss cocktail hour, the time between the ceremony and the reception, that awkward moment when your crazy aunt is telling everyone stories and you need to escape, whatever you want to call that time frame. Does anyone really know what to do during that time period? Because I sure don’t. I’m hungry, I need a drink, and I’m trying to decide what my next move is. Which leads us to reason #2: A photo booth fills the void times between ceremony and reception and the time while people are finishing up their food and the party getting started. It gives people something to do and a chance to mingle over something. The DJ can also assist in getting people over to the booth if it’s slow, especially if the party hasn’t started partying yet.
My last point, I promise. You only have your photographer for so long. And a lot of people don’t like having their pictures taken and will hide from the camera. This means you won’t have any evidence of a lot of people in attendance at your wedding if your photographer leaves before people really get to partying or if they hide from the camera. So, reason #3: A photo booth allows people to review their pictures and “approve” of the picture before it's sent out to the world. With a lot of different photo booths you have the ability to go back and download all the media from your wedding.
Alright, let’s circle back to our original question. Do you need a photo booth at your wedding (or event)? In my opinion, the answer is always yes. They’re fun, they give you and your guests a keepsake, it’s a great talking point, and it helps keep people entertained during the awkward moments where the night is moving a little slowly.
